Bridges to Prosperity - University of Toronto Chapter

At Bridges to Prosperity – University of Toronto Chapter (B2P-UofT) we are dedicated to being Engineers for the World, and we believe that we are capable of making a real impact through the application of our technical skills as bridge engineers. B2P-UofT was founded in April 2014 as the second university chapter of Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) in Canada with this ideal in mind. As such, our goals are twofold:

1. We want to eliminate poverty caused by lack of infrastructure! This is an extremely ambitious goal, but we believe that we can help take a step in the right direction by designing and constructing footbridges across otherwise impassable terrain in rural isolated communities. This is possible by partnering with B2P, which is a non-profit organization with expertise in bridge design. B2P operates and has people on the ground in Central and South America, Africa, and Asia. In August-September 2015, B2P-UofT built our first footbridge in Chimore, Bolivia with the Bridges to Prosperity Chapter at University of Waterloo and in 2016 we completed our first bridge as the lead chapter. The vision for B2P-UofT is to plan, design, and construct one or more bridges each year.

2. We want to educate and inspire! It is our goal to share our excitement for our projects and our passion for bridge engineering and global development with interested students, faculty, and alumni alike. To accomplish this goal we run a series of events during the school year, which include: Café Bridges to Prosperity in the Skule Pit, B2P Presents (speaker series), a bridge design/construction competition, and more!
