Kidney Heath and Awareness at UofT (KHAUT )

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a condition that is becoming ever more prevalent in Canadian society. Especially with the increasing prevalence of diabetes among Canadians (a common cause for kidney damage and disease). In Canada, there is an estimated 2.6 million people who have or at risk for kidney disease. Additionally, almost 75% of all patients waiting for an organ transplant in Canada are waiting for a kidney. It is clear that preventative care and education regarding kidney disease is paramount in the context of a growing elderly population. We believe that empowering students on campus early will start a dialogue regarding chronic kidney disease and organ transplantation in hopes to be more informed as a campus community.
